Plastics for bait fisho
Lately I’ve been doing a lot of offshore fishing at night.
One of my regular companions is primarily a bait fisherman but has read a lot about the success of soft plastics recently so decided to give them a try.
After an hour or so bouncing a lure off the bottom while I landed fish after fish on bait, he came to the conclusion that it was rubbish, these things can’t catch fish.
He threw the plastic lure out as far as he could and put the rod in the holder out of the way and preceded to bait fish.
The lure he had thrown out was a small paddle tail on a half ounce jig head which I doubt would get anywhere near the bottom in the 40 metres of water we were fishing.
About 10 minutes later we heard a drag scream only to look around and see the rod with the soft plastic on it bent double.

Weekend Conditions:
With the forecast southerlies, conditions will be marginal for smaller boats this weekend. The mornings are always the best boating weather at this time of year, this Sat should be no exception with the best weather for the weekend.
Tides:
This weekend falls a few days before the full moon so tides will be increasing in size of the next few days. On Saturday the tidal flow will be 50% of the year’s biggest in the morning then 30% at night. On Sunday the tides increase to 60% during the morning and 40% at night.
